Sound Shuffle 🎶

This week on Sound Shuffle, an most expose Jamaican artist has made this weeks underground artist. Koffee, is coming straight out of Spanish Town, Jamaica. Koffee who’s real name is Mikayla Simpson, known mostly for singing is also on the island of Jamaica, known as a popular Deejay, rapper and even singer.

I learn a lot from flows – when I listen to music, that’s what I’m tuned into, that’s what I want to continue to experiment with. I can see myself doing bashment, dancehall, everything.” -Koffee

Koffee has been an artist now for about two years and still makes bangers up until this day! She has about five singles out right now and one EP. As far as I know she will be dropping some new music in the future. At just nineteen years old, she already is already signed to the record label “Columbia”.

My favorite song by Koffee has to be “Toast“. I think so because it’s my favorite because is has such an up beat sound, that is usually not really associated with the genre or with artist in this genre, today. In this song Koffee raps and sings about just being thankful. Thankful for what? For Life. At a young age she realizes that life is one of the most precious things you can have, ever. My favorite part of this song is when she sings “Mi thank God for my journey, for the earnings, and just for the plus. And Gratitude is a must!” These lines to mean a lot because regardless of what she has she is thanking God for it all, because her gratitude shows how much it means to her.

“Me? I’m just down to earth.  I want to be a positive movement and make a positive movement, at the same time. I want to bring vibes and positive change. I want to impact the world.” – Koffee.

Be on the lookout for more of Koffee’s music and dive into a completely different genre of music that’s different than what you’re used to. Broaden your musical horizon and dip into the Caribbean side of music. Being the athlete that I am, I am always listening to music! Whether I’m listening to Koffee’s songs on Spotify, Apple Music, or YouTube, I will always run across one of her songs. Personally, her music is worth the listen and she has a song for literally almost every mood you can possibly be in. I even warm up to her music, so that can tell you. Even great music to listen by yourself or even at a party and even a road trip.

To me, there are no restrictions when it Koffee’s talents. Her possibilities are endless. Her website is full of descriptions about her along with how to listen to her music and ways to learn more about Koffee.

After a week of listening to more underground music, I found the underrated North Bay Area artist, who to me is slept on. “H3RB” is the underground artist for this week.

I met H3RB in 2017 when I went to Arizona on spring break. Ever since meeting him, and listening to his music over the past few months, I’ve grown to understand his lyrics on a deeper level.

Residing out of Santa Rosa, California, H3RB has a special rap sound that may seem different to people that are from different states, coasts’, and countries. But good music is good music. His special west coast sound is what makes him so different than what most people listen to. Unlike most artist he talks about his life and his experiences he’s been through. A mixture of emotion, pain and pure hustle.

“I always wanted to pursue music but I had a track and field dream that I was chasing as well but now I’m 100% into music.” -H3RB

H3RB, has been rapping for about 6 years, but has only recently got in the booth a little over a year ago. His first song ever was “Rookie Szn Freestyle“. H3RB has four songs with thousands of streams on SoundCloud and is expecting to drop more music later on this spring. H3RB’s most recent song “Luke Cage“, dropped on the first day of March.

My favourite song by the young California artist is “Rookie Szn Freestyle”. With this being his first song, H3RB clearly has put a lot of his feelings into this song, from problems with his girlfriend to his passed away friends, H3RB raps about it all. I like this song so much because I can relate a lot to what he’s rapping about. H3RB raps the lyrics “turning all these goals into gold”. That line to me sticks out because the goals I have set for myself will have me a good amount of gold chains, which is a small steps in where I see myself in the future. Being able to buy gold chains, with no hesitation or problem. With an increasing number of listeners, H3RB is definitely one of my favorite rappers that represent and come out of California.

Be on the lookout for more of H3RB’s music and dip into a style of rap that you’re not used to. Broaden your musical horizon to the west coast of the USA. Being the athlete that I am, I am always listening to music! Whether I’m listening to my SoundCloud downloaded music, Apple Music, Spotify or even Youtube I will always run across an H3RB song. Personally, his music is FIRE and he has a song if you’re in the mood to put in some serious work, regardless if it’s in the gym or in the office.

After yet another week of listening to more underground music, I found the underrated Caribbean artist, who to me is slept on. The Underground artist of the week is The Bahamas’ very own Sleepy Lexx.

Residing out of The Bahamas’ capital island, Nassau, Sleepy Lexx, has a special R&B, soul, rap, and hip-hop, sounds that may seem different to people of different countries, islands and or coasts’. But good music is good music and Sleepy Lexx, is top tier. His special island sound is what makes him so different than what most artist/musicians you would normally listen to. Unlike most artist he sings and raps about things he’s been through, either it be relationships or even simpler, the island life.

I’ve know Sleepy Lexx now for about six years and from when we first became friends in homeroom, our friend group, always used to talk about doing music. I love seeing that he took it seriously, and now has tens of thousands of listeners on SoundCloud, Apple Music and Spotify.

My Favorite songs by Sleepy Lexx, is tied between three of his smoothest projects. “Island Life“, “Gyal” and lastly “All Your Time“. These three songs I listen to whenever I’m home sick or I just to listen to something where I can think someone else feels my thoughts and emotions. Island Life, the name is a bit self explanatory. Sleepy Lexx talks about what he does daily because he living on an island, hence the name “Island Life”. “Gyal”, was the first song I’ve heard from Sleepy Lexx. The lyrics to this song incorporates a lot of my feelings I would express to someone, you know, if I had someone to express it to. However, this song gives me the perfect island vibe that can put me in my feelings yet make me believe that I deserve better. Lastly “All Your Time”, talks about to me something similar to “Gyal”, but specifically what you can give to your partner. The feature in the song is by A.Major and he adds the perfect balance to the already “hype” song.

Be on the lookout for more of Sleep Lexx’s music and dip into a style of music that’s completely different than what you’re used to. Broaden your musical horizon and dip into the Caribbean side of music. Being the athlete that I am, I am always listening to music! Whether I’m listening to my SoundCloud downloaded music or just on Youtube I will always run across an Sleepy Lexx’s songs. Personally, his music is worth the listen and he has a song for whether you’re feeling sad, happy, let down, or excited that you have that special someone in your life. All great music to listen by yourself or even at a party. Ladies and gentlemen, Sleepy.

“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain” – Bob Marley

In the world of underground music, there are a lot of genres and types of music associated with those genres, that you can eventually run into. This blog is about exactly that: non-mainstream, or underground music. My blog will be specifically about the genres of rap and hip-hop music that most people haven’t heard about from all over the world. The goal of this blog is to get people broaden their music horizons. I will listen to different types of non-mainstream music and artist and give my opinion on these types of music and artist and whether I think they’re hot or not.

In this first blog, I’m writing about a well known Bahamian duo called “Twindem“. Since I am also from The Bahamas, Twindem, is definitely one of my favourite artist out right now. I grew up listening to Twindem when they were just simply known “Twin & Bwah”. Even though they’re very popular back at home, because it is such a small country it is a challenge to become “mainstream”, in a foreign country.

Twindem first started making music nine years ago in 2010 with a group Vocal Union Bahamas (VUB) and they still make music to this present day. Their most recent work dropped 8 days ago, Islandtine 2 , on the night of February 13th, 2019. Their first project was My Brother’s Keeper (MBK). “Music was something we liked doing at first, then we started trying to take it a little more seriously as time went by.”

With an increasing number of followers and likes Twindem has grown into one of the biggest Bahamian artist in recent times. From their first mixtape, My Brother’s Keeper, to their last Islandtine 2, their music is full of experiences, along with the good and bad times that they have gone through in their personal life. Growing up listening to Twindem, and being from the same place as them, made me look at their music differently. I began to understand where they were coming from on a personal level. I know Twindem from a number of reasons being, we went to the same highschool, and even the same barber. I have two solidified favorite songs by Twindem. The first song is Ocean Club. It comes off their 2016 project, “Remember The Twins”. I like this song so much, because it gives you that vibe where you can listen to it no matter what you’re doing. Ocean Club is an private estate in The Bahamas’ capital island, Nassau. The Ocean Club is a club primarily for the wealthy, and Twindem is saying in this song that they have dreams of being able to live in Ocean Club, basically saying they have dreams of being rich. It’s gives you something to look forward too, or a goal of some sort to achieve. The second song “Last Ride” that comes off their latest mixtape “Islandtine 2”. This song is a song about

Being the athlete I am, I’m always listening to music. Like said in my bio, I always have in headphones and whenever I’m listening to Twindem either is through their album or one of their songs comes on in shuffle, my mood always changes. Personally their music is HOT! They have a song for every mood. It gives you a glimpse of how the “island life” is. Twindem has music on almost every platforms like Apple Music, Spotify, Soundcloud, Youtube and even Facebook.
